Fir Unit will be continuing our Stone Age topic. We will be finishing our story of Stig of the Dump. We will be focussing on Geography this half-term and with a particular focus on The Lake District. We will be developing our atlas reading skills and learning more about the countries and capital cities in the UK. In Maths we will be focussing on the value of money, punds and pence, involving counting, adding and subtracting money and solving problems. Additionally, we will be looking at measurement using mm, cm and m. In English we will be developing our writing skills and looking at the separate parts that make a story and particularly focusing on story endings. In science we are starting our new topic of plants! We will be looking in depth at the different parts of plants and their life cycle which will involve growing our own cress.
PE is on Thursday and Friday. Children need to have black shorts and a plain white t-shirt and trainers or plimsolls. Children may also wear a non-school jumper and black jogging bottoms for outdoor PE. This is especially important to remember now that the weather is colder. All jewellery should be removed and long hair tied back. It is important to remember that the weather can change during the term and we can still expect colder weather so dress appropriately.
For extended learning, your child will be expected to complete weekly tasks:
- Reading at home at least 4 or more times (reading books and diaries should be in school every day)
- TT rockstars
- Spelling practice via Spelling shed
- Homework grid
- Year group bucket list
Our theme this term is The Stone Age. We will be continuing to look at the daily lives from the Stone Age. We will be looking at the stone age boy which will allow us to explore the life of a typical stone age child. We will be starting our new theme in Science of plants which will feed into other aspects of learning such as observational drawings of plants in our Art lessons.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact any of the year 3 team.
